Making traditionally painted boomerangs

About this Experience

This incursion is very hands-on, with every child engaging in the activity of making traditional Aboriginal paint and painting their own boomerang. THE EXPERIENCE In the absence of written languages, Aboriginal people used paintings to convey knowledge for thousands of years. Art styles vary greatly across Australia.
In this incursion, children get introduced to a number of Aboriginal symbols, make their own traditional paint (with ochres, clay and charcoal) and paint a wooden boomerang to take home at the end of the day. We Supply: Wooden boomerangs, brushes, ochres and grinding rocks, display materials illustrating aboriginal symbols and acrylic spray to seal the finished artwork. We Need: Tables and chairs set up for 4-6 children per table. $550 incl. GST
