Storytelling

This experience draws on key elements from our Aboriginal Culture, Aboriginal Art and Didgeridoo & Beats experiences, bringing them together through the lens of storytelling.

THE EXPERIENCE

This immersive storytelling activity introduces students to the traditional ways stories have been shared and passed on for thousands of years; through art, music, movement and spoken word.

Students begin by listening to a short Dreaming story shared through oral storytelling, developing an understanding of the importance of listening, memory and connection to Country in Aboriginal storytelling traditions.

They then explore how stories are told visually through Aboriginal art. Drawing on elements of our Aboriginal Art program, students learn how natural ochres are made into paint and how symbols are used to represent people, places and journeys within a story.

The experience continues through sound and movement, as students discover how storytelling is expressed through didgeridoo rhythms, animal-inspired movements and guided dance, building on elements of our Didgeridoo & Beats program.

Together, these activities provide an engaging and age-appropriate way for students to understand how stories are shared, remembered and passed on across generations in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures.
