Painting lines on a boomerang in Aboriginal Art by First Nations Incursions

Aboriginal Art

This experience is very hands-on: every student engages in an activity of making traditional Aboriginal paint and painting their own boomerang.

THE EXPERIENCE

In the absence of a written alphabet, Aboriginal people used symbols and artwork for thousands of years to record and transmit information. Art styles vary greatly across Australia.

In this program, students get introduced to a number of Aboriginal symbols and how they can be used to tell a story, Students learn how to make their own traditional paint (with ochre, clay and charcoal) and paint a wooden boomerang, using traditional patterns and symbols, to take home at the end of the day.
